Co-owners and stakeholders

Jernkontoret’s operations are controlled by the co-owners through the governing board (Council). This co-ownership is linked to the iron and steel plants. Companies which are not co-owners but wish to make use of Jernkontoret’s services can apply to become a stakeholder (interested party).

Co-ownership

Participation in Jernkontoret can be acquired by the respective production site and is tied directly to each iron and steel works or pig iron furnace and not to either persons or companies. This co-ownership cannot be reversed but only ceases where operations are closed down and the co-ownership participation is then transferred to another site that carries out iron and steel making.

Society of Ironmasters

The Society of Ironmasters consists of the co-owners and other members of Jernkontoret’s governing board. The AGM of the Society of Ironmasters corresponds to the annual meeting of shareholders of a joint stock company.

Formerly, the Jernkontoret co-owner was represented by the owner of a works (brukspatron) or the manager, nowadays by a person appointed by the company (bruket), this usually being the managing director. The member of the Society of Ironmasters is therefore the owner of an iron and steel works or pig iron furnace participating in Jernkontoret.

The Society of Ironmasters appoints Jernkontoret’s Council, the organisation’s governing board. It is the Council which determines the strategic direction of Jernkontoret’s activities. The elected members of the Council are automatically members of the Society of Ironmasters during the mandate period.

The Society’s voting list is drawn up for the works that have paid the annual Jernkontorsdalern. Voting rights at Society of Ironmasters meetings are proportional to the forging capacity introduced to Jernkontoret (in terms of hundredths of centners where 1 centner = 42.5 kg). Iron and steel works with unpaid fees during more than three years remain as co-owners but lack voting rights.

Stakeholders

There are moreover stakeholders in Jernkontoret. These are companies who are not co-owners but which nevertheless wish to benefit from Jernkontoret’s services and activities.

Only companies can be stakeholders. An application is addressed to Jernkontoret’s managing director.

The more companies that share Jernkontoret’s goals, the more this benefits the industry as a whole and strengthens Jernkontoret’s effectiveness in terms of industrial and trade policy.
